Nothing says “holiday in the great outdoors” like a visit to the Australian Outback. Filled with untouched scenery, “the bush” or “the red centre” is just waiting to be explored.
For caravan owners, a trip to the Outback should be firmly placed at the top of their bucket lists. There are many caravan parks throughout Australia where you can park up for a few days as you go exploring. Here we’ve highlighted three of the most amazing Caravan parks to visit on your next outback holiday.
Kilcowera Station, South East Queensland
Many people mistakenly imagine a vast, arid wasteland when they hear the word Outback. However, the Outback includes several climate zones, including wetlands. Perhaps the best example of this is Kilcowera Station in South East Queensland.
This nearly 100,000-hectare property has lagoons, creeks, billabongs and several watering holes. Not to mention the dazzling rangelands, gorges and caves. Here you can spend your day watching the native birds and wildlife, swimming or hiking. On the other hand, if you’d prefer to remain in a cosier climate, you can take the 4WD for a spin in this spot of paradise in the deepest corner of the Sunshine State.
There are numerous sites to park your caravan, across two separate camping areas. The sites are primarily unpowered, though power can be provided. Here all the essential facilities are provided for example; bathrooms, fireplaces, tables, bbqs, wood and a camp kitchen.
Discovery Park, Port Hedland, WA
Port Hedland is a rugged, magical spot in Western Australia where the desert meets the sea. Because of this, Discovery Park, is an incredible place to park the caravan and get the best of both worlds! In addition to powered sites, the park also has a few cabins on offer for those travelling without a mobile home.
Amenities at Discovery Park include an activity room, barbecues, a camp kitchen, laundry and playground. You can even bring the family pet along to this dog-friendly property!
Adventuring throughout this unique area you can fill your time with fishing, crabbing and whale watching. Or if you prefer the drier climate there’s plenty of coastal walks to explore and off-roading tracks to discover.
Visit between October and March to experience the flatback turtle’s nesting and hatching seasons.
Wycliffe Well Holiday Park – Northern Territory
This 60-acre property, located 380 kilometres north of Alice Springs has a number of powered and unpowered sites for caravans along with several cabins. The park has an auditorium, a bar renowned for its large range of beers, an animal sanctuary and a stage with an Aboriginal performance theme.
What’s a trip to the outback without witnessing Australia’s incredible, unique natural landscape? When staying at Wycliffe Well Holiday Park, you’re only minutes away from the iconic Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles) Conservation Reserve.
The property also features a healthy, well-stocked lake for fishing and crabbing enthusiasts. You might have to compete for space though as Wycliffe is otherwise known as the ‘U.F.O capital of Australia’ and is extremely popular with UFO enthusiasts.
With these and many more sites in and around the Aussie Outback, you will be spoilt for choice when looking to endeavour on an outback caravanning adventure.
